Obliterate!

Like many people, I hate the GW Obliterators... they never seemed evolved enough for having the techno-virus. I know that could be interpreted as mid-morph, but meh, they just don't do anything for me. So, like many people, I decided to convert my Oblits. However, I wanted that feel of total walking gun platform. More techno and less Marine. A lot of the bits I had lying around, yes even the SW servitor arms I had for about 4-5 years, some were ordered and it's my first time using guitar string for hosing.

For my Word Bearers, these guys will be Black Legion mercs on "loan". I read Daemonworld, but have a hard time buying the Coven concept put forward by Ben Counter... I don't think the Word Bearers would bother with the techno-virus so much. They can make a few hundred sacrifices and then have Demon Engines, which are way cooler anyway!

I love me some plastics...

Hey all,

I was thinking about this today, all of the minis in my army are plastic. Ok, ok, one is not and that's the Greater Demon but even parts of that are plastic. So the I don't think I'm the only one being excited with GW pushing the range into more plastic options. When I first saw the current Chaos sprues I had to have them and work with them, the brand spanking new Space Wolf sprues look the same way... chock full of conversion possibilities.

But, do you guys think GW should to this for special characters as well? Give them the same treatment? Think along the lines of the WFB Orc Warboss, the possibility of making 3 different bosses in one kit. Or by doing this do you think the "special" factor of the character would be lost? Or maybe enhanced? What about a plastic Calgar?

The main reason I ask this is because other than the Greater Demon, and a Demon Prince ( I have one and it has the MoT!!) I haven't bought a metal model in years. One reason is price, another is working time... my working time and therefore turn around time is much faster with plastic than metal. So how is your army growing? By plastic? By metal? By both?

Color study

This is the working color study I have going now, and the pictures are not doing the paint any justice. This should be fixed in the future when I can get a dedicated photo space for this type of thing. Obviously it still needs some finishing touches, but overall once the basecoat is good and solid it's relatively quick to do.

When I first started this I was really struggling to get a nice red for the armor, everything before this was either too bright or too dark. Also this is the first real GW wash work I've done... I'm used to using the old school inks or thinned paint to shade. I think for the Aspiring Champs I'll keep the robes black, for the regular CSM a cream colored robe should be good. For squad markings I have the idea of using parts of the chaos star with the matching graphic for the Rhinos as well.

Hey all,

I have been attempting to get this army completed for a while now. I feel one of the best ways to achieve this goal is to have support from the community at large so I started this blog.

All this comes to 2000 pts., or dang close... I don't have my list right in front of me, and like I said everything is almost built. So far for painting, I have a test mini done, one of the AC's, and am actually quite pleased with him. Pictures will follow in the next few days, once I locate my now lost again camera. I'm looking forward to talking with you all, and take care.
